2 Piece of History
I dunno why I suddenly would wanna visit places that contributes to Singapore landscape and historial. I guess interacting with some people for some time would result yourself learning their habits and interest. [o.o] The kranji War Memorial was certainly* my type of place, it's peaceful, quiet yet full of 'people'. However, I only spent 20 mins enjoying the site because a thunderstorm is coming and I had to rush down to meet my bro's friends to head down to the Marina barrage. Some facts about the place that most Singies (Singaporeans) doesn't know. Do you know that the Kranji cementary is also the resting place of the 1st and 2nd president of Singapore? (I guess Singies were like me before I visit that place - I only thought that the kranji war memorial hosted heroes and people who died during W.W.II.) Most people also didn't know that the cemetery is the final resting place for 4,458 allied servicemen in marked graves laid out in rows on maintained and manicured lawns. Out of the 4,458 graves, over 850 of these graves are unidentified. One last info... the memorial is accessible only from woodlands road, which is the same path the japanese army marched down on 9 Februrary 1945. The War memorial gave me a sense of how the peace now we experienced is taken for granted. Singies now only focus about 2 things - Future and Money. They have forgotten about the past and how these heroes have sacrifice their life for our future. They should take some time off and visit such places to remind themselves of the past. Hopefully it can make them more appreciate whatever that they are having now. I wil definitely go back again to visit the memorial because it is really such a nice place to visit. That's all for the Kranji War Memorial... As for the Photos, I'll upload them in Facebook, its not alot because of time constrain so I apologize 1st. After the trip down to Kranji, My bro and I head down to Orchard 1st to meet his friends/classmates before making our asses to the marina barrage. My brother's classmates are a whole new level of crazy bums :D and Its nice to be with them. I'll explain as I discuss about my time at the marina barrage. The Marina Barrage, ermm... from my point of view is a great place to spent time with your romeo or juliet. It is also ideal for family activites like kite-flying and probably pinic. When I went there, there was an event going on... I think is "Real love works". The whole surroundings around us everything relating to love, couples, marriage etc etc. It was superb to see so many people gather to know more about love, marriage and stuffs like that. The seminar really brought a different atmosphere to the barrage. The marina barrage is actually a dam builded across the marina channel using reclaimed land. I feel it is a totally great concept of synchronising a dam, a water supply and a relaxing spot for singies. Do you know that the Marina Barrage is also powered by Solar Energy? SAVE THE EARTH PEOPLE! It's good to see the goverment is doing their to try reduce greenhouse gases :D When I'm at the marina barrage, I blew bubbles along with my bro's friends and watch people fly kite :D We even help a family in their photos to create the bubbles in their photos... damn fun and cool. Sadly, that place and skies were still quite gloomy and there were little drizzles after the thunderstorm earlier so we didn't manage to take much photos either. Nevertheless... the scenary there are worth the trip for most occasions... As for pictures of the marina barrage, like the kranji ones, the others i'll upload on facebook on a later date. That's all for the post mates :D Wish you all best lucks for those starting school tmr! |
